Today we are overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with all the unanswered questions, the influx of information and the many "what ifs". We are not only overwhelmed with the current situation but the other troubles that didn't just disappear when the scarier giant popped up. Now we have three large giants, two medium giants and all those pesky small ones staring us in the eyeballs. At this point, it kind of feels like a mix between Daniel in the lion's den AND David standing in the shadow of Goliath. I will be the first to admit that I have had to fall at your feet as my heart trembles more than ever here lately.
Psalm 61:2 says, "From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I."
That is our prayer today in the uncertainty and when these days are past us.
God help us to see that you're in charge. We don't have to have the answers or figure everything out on our own. We may have earthly leaders who are in charge but you're our ultimate authority. You, Lord, are our Creator and the God of the universe. There is nothing too hard for you. There is nothing "new" to you. There is nothing that takes you by surprise.
You know every virus strain that exists, every insect that moves, the number of hairs on our head and you have the sand numbered on every shore in the world.
You know every human, animal, and cell that exists in this universe. Your name is written in the depths of the sea and on all the planets because you created them. You're the one true God who sent His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, down to earth to die on a cross and suffer immense anguish (that we will never be able to fully fathom) for a bunch of sinners who run away when things get tough. We fail you greatly, yet you loved us enough to make a way to you through your son Jesus Christ.
You are the creator of the universe and know exactly what we need and when we need it. We don't even know what we need oftentimes, but you DO. You KNOW. We are not flying through life with no hope as your child. Living in a sinful world has repercussions and we all know that in our hearts. However, even in the brokenness, you still shine bright and guide us through every valley and mountaintop. When the sun is shining on our face or not, you're still shining in our hearts even when we forget that you're there.
How could we fear anything knowing that you, the one TRUE God, have the final say?
Alas, we are only flesh and bones and we falter easily as your sheep. Please help us to always stick close to you on the jubilant days and the dark days. Without you, we would be hopeless and the darkest of days would overtake us. We do have hope in you Jesus and we thank you for forgiving us of our sins, loving us unconditionally and never once leaving nor forsaking us.
If anyone reading my measly attempt at praising you doesn't know you, I pray fervently that you will speak to their hearts and that they would place their faith in you, Jesus. More than anything, I pray they allow you to fill that void in their life with you and you alone. You're worthy of our praise, God!
Luke 19:39-40 says, "And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."
You have the last chapter written and you will always be.
We praise you, Jesus, in the good times and the challenging times.
In your name, amen!
