Because I Love Them

Both Elsa’s got confiscated yesterday in the Burchette household. They have found a new home in my bathroom out of the reach of my four year old wanna-be ringleader.

She lost them due to disrespectful behavior and won't get them back until she wakes up this morning unless of course, the behavior has not been corrected. I'm trying to teach my children that their consequences have actions. When they disobey, consequences will soon follow. Whether you're a four-year-old or a forty-year-old, your actions have consequences be it good or bad. I follow through with consequences because I love my kids more than life itself and I want them to thrive.

Hebrews 12:6 says, "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth."

Hebrews 12:11 says, "Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby."

When they destroy a $90 computer charger resulting in me having to purchase a new one; consequences will follow.

Because I love them.

When they are disrespectful to adults in the Chick-fil-a drive-thru; consequences will follow.

Because I love them.

When they don't use their listening ears; consequences will follow.

Because I love them.

When they don't clean up their toys; consequences will follow.

Because I love them.

When they fight and hit one another while playing; consequences will follow.

Because I love them.

It is our responsibility as parents to show our children how to love God and love others. It doesn't come naturally for any of us as we are all born as sinners in need of a Savior.

Isn't this how God corrects His children? BECAUSE He loves us, He corrects us. He doesn't want us to continue down our sinful paths that will ultimately bring destruction. He loves us enough to both show us grace (always) AND correct us when we go astray.

When mom guilt sets in and I feel bad for taking a toy away due to bad behavior I remember I do it...

because I love them.
