I often think about what my life would be like had I not been blessed with such an amazing husband. He isn't perfect, but I frequently tell him that he's pretty close. Long before I met my husband, I remember sitting in high school Freshman English class and listening to my teacher read the beloved story, Romeo & Juliet. After we read a few chapters, she had us write down all the characteristics we wanted our future mate to possess. I still have the list of characteristics in my memory box on the top shelf in my closet and still pull it out from time to time to remind myself of how God answered my prayer. I remember not just aimlessly writing down the characteristics, but asking God to send me the right person as I wrote. It is so cool to think about a younger 'me' sitting at that desk and God working things out for my good... I am so undeserving!
A few days ago, while I was stressed and overwhelmed with life, God reminded me that the mate he blessed me with was truly a special gift. My wonderful husband is always on my team and encourages me often when life gets tough. The right man is truly, "Worth the wait." My husband has helped me through some difficult seasons and I couldn't imagine not being married to a supportive spouse. It is so important to wait for the right person and not settle for just anyone.
This brief flashback to Freshman English class sparked a fire in my heart to encourage YOU, whoever you may be, to trust that God will send you a wonderful person to spend your life with. There isn't a one-hundred percent perfect person out there, but as Ruth Graham Bell said, "A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers."
Maybe you're a single lady who is praying and waiting for the right person to come along and you feel like its never going to happen. You feel like every guy that comes your way doesn't work out and that all the good guys are 'taken'. You see friends getting into relationships, engaged, and married and you so badly want it to be you. I encourage you to keep praying and know that God will send you a man who will love Him first and you second in his perfect timing.
2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV says, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness."
I encourage you to...
Marry a man who loves God and will lead you closer to Him. (Ephesians 5:23)
Marry a man who will love you as he loves himself. (Ephesians 5:33)
Marry a man who will work hard to provide for you and your future family. (Proverbs 10:4)
Marry a man who is honest. (Romans 12:17)
Marry a man who is loving and compassionate. (1 Corinthians 13)
Marry a man who is passionate and driven. (Proverbs 21:5)
Marry a man who loves people. (Mark 12:29-31)
Marry a man who will courageously and unselfishly lead his family. (1Corinthians 11:3)
Marry a man with a good sense of humor. (Proverbs 17:22)
