Ten Things I Want My Daughter To Know

Updated: Feb 24, 2018

When we found out we were pregnant with our daughter, we were excited and really nervous. I never could have dreamed how much a tiny baby girl would change our world, but she did and she amazes us everyday. We affectionately refer to her as our, “Honeymoon Baby” and although she was a surprise, we wouldn’t go back and change a thing. When God gives a couple a child it is such a blessing and a huge responsibility.

Psalm 127:3 KJV “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”

I was thinking about writing this blog post the other day and wondering how I was going to write it without crying my eyes out. My baby girl is growing so fast and it is a blessing she is healthy and happy, but equally heartbreaking as time is going so fast.

I encourage you, Mama, to write your very own ’Ten Things You Want Your Daughter To Know’ to give to your daughter. Write them on a piece of notebook paper for her to keep in her memory box or get a nice frame and hang them on her wall so she can constantly be reminded of them. I know it will be a continuous encouragement to her and yourself as the years go by.

1.You’re Loved

The God who created the heavens and the earth LOVES you endlessly and even sent His ONLY son, Jesus, to die for your sins on the cross. He has a great plan for you and our prayer is you feel His love in your life, always and we pray you have a personal relationship with Jesus. Your father and I love you the second most in the world and we will always be your biggest fan. Even when you mess up we will always be here to encourage, love, and point you to Jesus. We adore you and thank God for you and your life.

2. You’re Beautiful

In the world today, you have so many distorted views of ‘beauty’ and we want you to know you’re beautiful inside and out, always. Cling to 1 Peter 3 “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quite spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” We want you to take to heart and focus on your inner beauty as it will captivate hearts and change the world.

3. You’re Capable

God has a great plan for you and will give you all the wisdom you desire from Him. You’re capable of changing the world around you and making a lasting difference in the lives of others. With God’s guidance and strength, you can overcome any obstacle that you face. There will be giants in your life, but God is greater in you.

4. You’re Worth It

When the time comes for you to date and you're looking for a future spouse, always know that you’re worth it. You’re worth every bit of effort a man will put forth to pursue you, and then some! We want you to always know that the right man will come along who will respect your worth. He will respect your purity and will lead you closer to Christ while always pursuing you in a selfless way.

5. You’re Talented

God has given you a unique set of talents that he will reveal to you if only you ask Him too. Your talents can and should be used to bring glory to God. We will always be proud of your accomplishments and will seek to help you nurture your talents. Cling to Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

6. You’re Enough

You don’t have to measure up to the worlds unrealistic expectations or work to be favored and loved by God, as He only asks for your heart and faith in Him. The devil will try to make you think you need to do more and be more to amount to anything, but when Jesus died on the cross He was doing it for YOU because to Him you are enough.

7. You’re Powerful

Throughout the Bible, you see women who either use their power to build up or to destroy. You’re powerful as a woman, more than you know, but we pray you see the importance of using that power for good. Whatever stage of life you find yourself in, we pray you will build others up with your words and love them fiercely. Be an Esther, Proverbs 31 Woman, or Mary in a world full of Jezebel’s and women like Potiphar’s wife. Be the woman who follows God with her whole heart and not a woman who causes others to stumble and fall.

8. You’re Blessed

As the saying goes, “Your worst day with God will be better than your best day without him” (Unknown). Never forget how blessed you truly are even on the hardest of days. So many people in your backdoor and around the world live without the basic means of survival. There will always be someone worse off than you and always remember to thank God for all He has done for you.

9. You’re Not Above Serving Others

Matthew 25:40 says, “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Jesus came to serve others and was found often washing the disciples feet, healing the sick, and feeding the hungry all while sharing His love with them. Daughter, serving others brings glory to God and always remember the importance of putting others before yourself.

10. You’re Our Special Blessing

Lastly, we want you to know how special you’re to us. God truly blessed us when he gave you to us to nurture and raise. You make us so happy to be your parents and we pray you will always seek God first in everything you do. Even on your hardest days, you will always have us cheering you on in the background.

I would love to see your ‘Ten Things I Want My Daughter To Know’ lists and know how much your daughter loved and appreciated it!
